DECISION OF THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE No 176/2021

amending Annex XIII (Transport) to the EEA Agreement [2024/168]

THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE,

Having regard to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (“the EEA Agreement”), and in particular Article 98 thereof,

Whereas:

(1) Directive (EU) 2019/1159 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 amending Directive 2008/106/EC on the minimum level of training of seafarers and repealing Directive 2005/45/EC on the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates issued by the Member States ( 1 ) is to be incorporated into the EEA Agreement.

(2) Directive (EU) 2019/1159 repeals Directive 2005/45/EC ( 2 ) , which is incorporated into the EEA Agreement and which is consequently to be repealed under the EEA Agreement.

(3) Annex XIII to the EEA Agreement should therefore be amended accordingly,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

Annex XIII to the EEA Agreement shall be amended as follows:

The following indent is added in point 56j (Directive 2008/106/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council):

‘-

32019 L 1159 : Directive (EU) 2019/1159 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 ( OJ L 188, 12.7.2019, p. 94 ).’

The text of point 56s (Directive 2005/45/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council) is deleted.

Article 2

The text of Directive (EU) 2019/1159 in the Icelandic and Norwegian languages, to be published in the EEA Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union , shall be authentic.

Article 3

This Decision shall enter into force on 12 June 2021, provided that all the notifications under Article 103(1) of the EEA Agreement have been made ( *1 ) .

Article 4

This Decision shall be published in the EEA Section of, and in the EEA Supplement to, the Official Journal of the European Union .
