DECISION No 1/2021 OF THE EU-ALGERIA ASSOCIATION COUNCIL

agreeing on the extension of the validity of the EU-Algeria partnership priorities [2021/2215]

THE EU-ALGERIA ASSOCIATION COUNCIL,

Having regard to the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an Association between the European Community and its Member States, of the one part, and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, of the other part,

Whereas:

(1) The Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an Association between the European Community and its Member States, of the one part, and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, of the other part (the ‘Agreement’) was signed on 22 April 2002 and entered into force on 1 September 2005 (1).

(2) Under Article 94 of the Agreement, the Association Council has the power to take appropriate decisions for the purpose of attaining the objectives of the Agreement.

(3) By Decision No 1/2017 of the Association Council (2), the EU and Algeria agreed on partnership priorities to guide the partnership for the period 2017-2020.

(4) In an Exchange of Letters, both sides agreed that the validity of the EU-Algeria partnership priorities should be extended as a guiding document to consolidate the partnership pending the adoption of new updated partnership priorities.

(5) Article 10 of the Rules of Procedure of the Association Council provides for the possibility to adopt decisions by written procedure in the period between meetings, if both Parties so agree,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

The Association Council, acting by written procedure, decides that the validity of the EU-Algeria partnership priorities, annexed to its Decision No 1/2017, shall be extended until new updated partnership priorities are adopted by the Association Council.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the day of its adoption.
